Andrew Marr's interview with Tony Blair. Photograph: Jeff Overs/EPA/BBCTo my subsequent regret, I once found myself defending Tony Blair. He had come to lunch at the Observer while still leader of the opposition, and it seemed to me that some of my colleagues were being heavy-handed with our guest. However, on reflection, and given his record, I now think that they were not heavy-handed enough. There was a revealing moment during BBC2's re-run of his interview with Andrew Marr ... |

Back in January, US vice-president Joe Biden offered up a huge hostage to fortune. Talking to fellow Democrats about the Obama plan for the economy, he promised: "You're going to see, come the spring, net increase in jobs every month." Yesterday figures showed that a net total of 54,000 workers lost their jobs in August, taking the official unemployment rate to 9.6%. A big dollop of gloomy news just in time for Labour Day weekend. Not that you would have taken it as bad ne ... |

Chancellor George Osborne appears to have spooked the service sector with warnings of spending cuts. Photograph: Leon Neal/AFP/Getty ImagesRecession alert! That's the obvious conclusion from this morning's news that activity in Britain's service sector has slipped to its lowest level since April last year. There are two main reasons to be concerned by the monthly health check provided by Markit and the Chartered Institute for Purchasing and Supply. The first is that the Septemb ... |

The government has made great rhetorical efforts to scare us into accepting cuts. Underneath the rhetoric, the argument rests on the idea of fiscal sustainability. Yet the question of what level of debt is in fact sustainable is never openly addressed. The reason, most probably, is that we can afford a lot more than the government wants to admit.Government debt is not like household debt: the government borrows from us through our savings and pensions, and when it has to ... |

Katy Perry Makes Her Sexy Face
I’m somewhat disgusted and more than a little aroused by these pictures of Katy Perry signing autographs the other day. This is not a good angle for her, although it is a pretty good angle for us. I’m confused. She looks like an old lady movie star from the twenties with a pair of nineteen year old boobs. I guess it could be worse, it could be the other way around.

I have to hand it to this Jenni Farley aka JWoWW chick, she knew her face was too busted to really get her anywhere, so she went out and bought herself two of the best face distracters money could buy. Smart move. Here she is showing them off in her bikini while she tries to get her skin that perfect shade of orange. Those things work beautifully, as far as I’m concerned she doesn’t even have a head.

Jessica Alba’s Top Is Almost Invisible
It’s not often I get pictures of Jessica Alba wearing a see through top so when it happens I want to jump all over it. No really, I want to jump all over that thing. Not in a creepy assault kind of way, in a very romantic dry hump kind of way. Anyhow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a shirt this see through, it’s almost invisible. Some Frenchman somewhere could use that thing to make a fine cheese.

Moving on, she actually looks pretty damn hot, I keep forgetting she’s got a pretty tight little body under there. I’m impressed. I wonder if she can help me set up my surround sound?
